"Ocho apellidos vascos" becomes most-seen Spanish movie ever

Romantic comedy overtakes national box office figure set by Amenábar’s ‘The Others’

Amazingly, this movie has become a great success with 6 weeks so far being the top 1 of the box office. Not even blockbusters such as Captain America or The Amazing Spiderman 2 have been able to beat "Ocho apellidos vascos".

The movie has been in the top 15 worldwide (note that it has been released in Spain only).

Be aware that you would need a great level of Spanish and a very good knowledge of Spanish culture to understand the movie. It makes fun of the difference between people from Andalusia and the Basque Country.

I watched this movie twice: on the airplane to Spain and on the way home. With subtitles, it is very easy to understand. It was great! I highly recommend it. When we were in Spain this summer, there was an advertisement that was a take off on the film: 8 Aperitivos Vascos.

Glad you enjoyed it, teachertraveler8! The Spaniards that watched it with me were howling with laughter whileI was there just staring at the TV just trying to follow it. I didn't get most of the references or couldn't understand a lof of what was said so subtitles would've helped me, too.

I've also heard there is another Spanish movie in-the-works using the same formula, but I can't remember what it's about right now.
