well I have been there especially in Bologna, Milan, and Rome many times on business trips.

However, now is the time to take the family and see something else of Europe with them. We are going early August for two weeks in Rome, rented an apartment and we are flying in on Air France.

Now, what do you know about Rome from a tourist point of view to see ,visit, eat, drink etc.?

I been to Rome twice and was planning to return last year but life got in the way.

The things I remembered are:

The best pizza can be found in the Trastevere District at Dar Poeta.

A trip to the Vatican City is entire day because of the Vatican museum, St Peters Basilica and Sistine Chapel. Also a visit to the top of St Peters is always worth it. Must have visited five times already day and night.

Rome has world class museums, but a visit to Galleria Borghese was mind blowing as it was the first museum I every visited that from the floor all the way to the ceiling are decorated in art. The Borghese requires tickets to be purchased in advance.

A daytrip to Pompeii is worth the visit and it gave me a true sense what life was like in Roman time. Also see frescos on their walls where they were painted completely in tack, again mind blowing.

Also I will point out every on those two Rome visits I never once thrown a coin in Trevi Fountain.

The cancel trip to Rome was to include a trip Villa d’ Este in Tivoli which has a garden that has over 100 water fountains. From the photographs I saw it is stunning place to visit.

Enjoy your trip!

Bill

thanks for the contribution Bill. we love pizzas so we will have a go at it, plus wife will do them at the apt with local ingredients and see the difference lol! Will check out Dar Poeta.

yes Borghese everyone is telling me about it. Vatican will see about the long lines not my cup of tea. they have told me about Tivoli and the beach near Rome antia appia something like that.

its so different going with the family we tend to go to simple places when on business we splurge ::)

Do you have a suggestion on coming in to termini, again on business I take the taxi, but now with the family we try cheaper. We are 5!

There should be train from Fiumicino Airport airport to Termini and if I recall it is expensive compare to Madrid for example, 15 euros.

Also when you get back please post some of your opnions. Would love to read them.

back from eternal Roma and now ready for the house closing next week lol!!! still on vacation sort of...

Roma was great if a bit dirty; the pizzas not better than NYC, the gelato was great. lots of heat and tourists but the transport was easy to figure out and we went all over. I will have some posts over my blog in the coming days.

thanks for all the suggestions its always welcome. Cheers
