OK a slightly unusual question but has anyone ever declared items at the airport?

Typically people who travel to the States try and bring back loads of stuff and sneak it through customs without declaring it. Usually works with small stuff like computers and clothing, but were bringing back a bike (bike friday) and last time my wife was actually stopped at the gate and asked about it, but being as the Spanish are very uncomfortable speaking English they just waved us through (this has happened several times)

BUT with the crisis there is a ton more pressure to get money from everywhere possible

Typically you pay about 30% of the value (dollar to euro) if it comes by post
