Hurray!! Puerta del Sol's "Tío Pepe" neon sign will return by Christmas!! First reported by TVE TV (yesterday afternoon/evening) and "Diario de Jerez" second (this morning), the Bodegas González Byass announced the historical sign will be perched atop one of 3 buildings before the end of the year.

Woo Hoo!! That's fantastic news!! I hope to be there when they do it.

Good news about the Tio Pepe sign . When I stayed a couple of weeks at The Hostal Puerta del Sol I had a top floor room with a huge shared balcony right across the road from the sign . At night I'd leave the curtains open so it would shine into my room .
And memorable hot evenings with friends and wine on that balcony .
Only thing was that I shared the balcony with 3 other rooms . Hostal Puerta del Sol is not a place to be shy or introvert .

So now my photographs are of Tio Pepe sign cannot be consider photographs of "old" Madrid, but "rearranged" Madrid.
