Hi, Juliana is looking for Hostal to stay in for a single woman near the above train stop. She wants to be near the friend that she will be visiting. Or if not near that train stop, at least on the Cercanías Sorry I don't know what neighborhood. It is really far south, in between yellow line stop hospital 12 de October and blue line Buenos Aires. Anyone? Thanks!

Yes that does help. She has not been finding any places to stay near there, but at least this will help in finding a place more central ,but with easy transportation.

Good suggestions, pedmar. I'd be surprised if there was anything in that immediate area as it's so far outside the city center. Is the person she's visiting living in that area or is she just visiting? Can that person recommend someplace that (s)he may have seen in that area? There's probably one or two hostales/pensiones, but they aren't likely to be well-publicized.
Saludos, MadridMan

Does anyone know anything about hostel Horizonte? It is not far from Atocha for catching transportation.
Her friend lives there, but has not been there long and just had a baby so is a bit occupied when she is out and about

Hi, jacmom! I'm now pretty familiar with the area surrounding the Asamblea de Madrid en "Entrevias" - which is a section in Vallecas. I've spent a bit of time there in the last 5 months and I don't recall ever seeing a hotel or hostal in that area at all - or at least not within a comfortable walking distance. It's not a bad area, but it's far from the best, too.
Near the Asamblea there is a Cercanías Station, "Asamblea de Madrid-Entrevias", but there is no metro.
This area used to be acres upon acres of "chábolas", a very wide-spread shanty-town. About 20-30 years ago the city tore them all down and gave most of those living in the "chábolas" a flat in the new buildings in this area. Make whatever conclusions you like about that.
Where did you finally end up staying?
Saludos, MadridMan

Hi, MM, Thanks for the info. Juliana ended up staying in Hostal Horizonte near Atocha. Since the train was going to be her transportation to her friends home, she looked for something near Atocha. From the info you and pedmar and others gave, it seemed like Atocha would be one of the better locations.
Her friends are a young couple, she's half United Statesian and half Spanish and her soon to be husband is from Honduras, but has gone to school in Barcelona for several years. So as to the area, they are just starting out and trying to be quite economical.
In fact, Juliana just made reservations this week to go to Honduras for their wedding in April. After the wedding, several people, including Juliana plan on staying in the area for a week to explore.
From your new information, it looks like she made a good choice!
Jacmom

Wow ! How cool is that going to a wedding in Honduras ... Is it in Tegucigalpa ? ... My American military friends enjoyed it there though it's very different . I love going to places that I know nothing about .

It's in Santa Cruz de Yojoa, population around 50,000. There will be about 70-80 guests from Honduras, 10 from the USA, with 5 of those either being half Spanish. All but 1 person speaks Spanish so they should be able to interact easily with each other and have a great celebration.
