Hi, just been looking at your article on the airport shuttle bus. Seems like a great way to see the sights initially, although it will be 9.30pm on a Sunday evening when we arrive! I cannot find Plaza de Cibeles on my map, please help!
We did think we would just take the Metro but think the bus could be a nice alternative.

Regards

I think it's the plaza at the north end of Paseo del Prado, right near the Banco de Espana Metro stop.

Haven't been to Madrid in awhile (but we're going back in May), but I recall it had really cool fountains.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I think we have decided to take the metro and have a morning on the tourist bus on the Monday to get our bearings. That worked quite well the first time we went to Barcelona.

Yeah, the Madrid Airport Express Shuttle Bus isn't really for sightseeing, anyway. Take the hop-on-hop-off bus for that.

You can find the Plaza de Cibeles on Google Maps, too. The major north-south boulevard passes right through it, Paseo del Prado to the south and the Paseo de Recoletos (which becomes Paseo de la Castellana further up) to the north.

Best of luck and Happy Travels!

I am confused..Just WHERE at Atocha is the bus pickup/departure point. I do not find any map showing the location. It is easy to understand the directions re location in the airport. I will take the metro to Atocha to get on the airport express bus. I am sure it will be well marked, but thee are so many signs in Atocha!

Thanks

The pickup and drop-off point at Atocha is the same place, on the northeastern side of the station outside of the "SALIDAS" section and next to the odd-looking, round, brick-pillared building - which is the "Cercanías" entrance. See the photo above. You can also see the tall, yellow post which is specifically and only for this Express Airport Bus.

See location image below. Good luck! Saludos, MadridMan

We used the Aeropuerto Express (#203) to/from Cibeles a few weeks ago - it was great...better than metro IMO.

The red is where it picks you up (there is a sign there) going to the airport, and the green is where it lets you off from the airport continuing on to Atocha.

Adding to my post above...

When I said the bus was "better" than the Metro, obviously this depends on:

(1) Where your hotel is. (The bus only has three stops in the city: O'Donnell, Cibeles, & Atocha.)

(2) Which terminal you arrive at. (The bus' last-leaving and first-arriving airport stop is T1; the Metro stops at T2 and T4)

(3) Whether or not the bus is going in the same direction as rush-hour traffic.
