Yours truly will be making this car-trip at some point this summer and would like to know if anyone has suggestions or recommendations as to which interesting places to stop for a day/night.

Google Maps shows, of course, the fastest, most direct route along the northern part of the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean and then up France. It shows the trip taking 11 hours and passing through Toulouse, Montpellier, Nimes, Avignon, near Lyón, to Geneva, Switzerland.

Any suggestions from experiences appreciated. I'll also be looking through other travel message boards with which I'm familiar but wanted advice from our own people first.
