I noticed there were hardly any hostals in Malaga on the spain hotel list. Does anybody have any recommendations for some where clean, safe and cheap to stay in Malaga in the middle of June?

Your best bet it to check out the Lonley Planet site. They deal with "bookhostels" and they are just great!

It's true. There are FEW hostels (called "hostales" in Spanish - or "hostals" in Catalán. Otherwise, the word "hostals" does not exist in any language) in Málaga City. There are a few with websites @ http://www.SpainHostels.com/links/Andalucia/Malaga/Malaga/

I think a few of them have been reviewed here in this forum category too. Be sure to conduct a SEARCH using keywords MALAGA HOSTAL. Good luck and enjoy Málaga!

has anybody ever stayed at Hostel Castilla?

Hostal Castilla in Málaga? I know of a Hostal Castilla in the city of Torremolinos in the PROVINCE of Málaga - but not in the city of Málaga. (web: http://www.hotelcastilla.net/ )

oh jeez. doesn't look like there's many hostals at all. Yes, Hostal Castilla in malaga. OK it's in the Province of Malaga. thank you. I have no idea. I can't get anybody from any of the hostals to e-mail me back.

Last year I spent a few nights in Torremolinos, which has quite a reputation as a lively holiday resort. It's about 20 minutes (if I remember correctly) by train from Málaga, where I went each day, and the train stops at the airport on the way. 'Torrie' is a great place to find budget accommodation: not only hostales, but end of season deals in hotels and apartment complexes.
