I conducted a fast SEARCH (using the handy SEARCH function located near the top righthand corner of each ALL SPAIN message board page) for you using keywords MADRID HOTEL OPERA and found several reviews including this one .

Also did the same for MADRID HOTEL REGINA and found this one among others.

Saludos, MadridMan

NOV. 3rd.

GUESS SOME CANNOT READ. I SAID DO NOT STAY ON "TOP FLOOR." THE HOTEL OPERA "DOES HAVE AN ELEVATOR", BUT IT DOES NOT RUN TO THE TOP FLOOR. ROOMS AT THE TOP NOT THAT GREAT. HOTEL WAS SO-SO.

(MadridMan Note: read chinaclipper's review of Hotel Opera here )

Just to clarify our experience at Hotel Opera in Madrid. There are two elevators side by side in the main lobby. We definitely rode the elevator on the left hand side to our room on the eighth floor. It was the top floor as there was a penthouse type balcony off the room. (That room was indeed so-so.) Upon arriving at the eighth floor, the exit door of the elevator failed to open. I rang the alarm bell, and the desk persons soon arrived to open the door from the outside. This was two years ago. We were at Hotel Opera again last year, and both elevators appeared to be working perfectly. This time, we stayed on the third floor!
