Since we had a wedding in Madrid this summer,(so much fun) my husband and I spent 10 days at Hostal Jaen and we only have great things to say about it.
The hostal, and indeed the entire building, are impeccably clean, well maintained and very safe. The proprietor, Mr. Rufino and his wife are so friendly and very welcoming. The room was small but functional, with a powerful shower(a must!) and a brand new air conditioner which was our saving grace in the heat..

We completely fell in love with Huertas, "our" neighborhood, and loved exploring it. Great breakfast at "cafe cervantes" on the corner of Cervantes and Leon!

Jaen is a nice place honeycomb, although it can be pretty hot there. I have only been there once and was able to stay at the Parador which, quite frankly, is spectacular.

My wife and I did a bit of a road trip around Andalucia and Jaen was the first place we stopped at.

I believe you two are talking about two different things? First the Hostal Jaen in Madrid and second the town/city of Jaen.

i'm staying at the hostal jaen 10/7-10/11, so far i've only had e-mail communication with them but they seem very nice. i hope my stay is as great as yours, honeycomb. also, their price blew everybody else out of the water, 40 euros/night, VAT included!

That is a good price these days, yes. And I think I've ONLY read good things about them. We'd LOVE to get your review here in this thread too, indelible.

seems like a nice find, this hostal Jaen in Madrid!

HJ was great, close to the anton martin subway stop and a very short walk to anywhere. I almost freaked when i arrived at 11PM and the door was locked but then i noticed that they were on the 3rd floor and had to ring the bell to be let in haha. I stayed in a double w/shower and toilet. The room was about 10ft x 9ft, so it's not very spacious at all. There was a new ~26" LCD tv with basic spanish tv, free porn was on after midnight lol (2-3 channels), is that normal ? The couple that own the flat make your bed for you, even if you do it yourself, i guess we didn't do it correctly.

i give it a 5 out of 5.

Glad you had a nice experience at Hostal Jaen - and PORN ta' boot! Is that "normal", you ask? They don't have porn on TDT (the new, digital free broadcast) but, yes, on the last remaining month of analog TV here in Spain, that is normal after midnight. Even that'll go bye-bye after the change-over to digital. If you had Canal+ (satellite) in your room they only show porn on one channel after midnight and only on the weekends.

Hmm... Maybe this is more a posting about porn than about Hostal Jaen. Maybe we shouldn't be associating one with the other and maybe we should start a new topic? Or maybe not.

Anyway, I've only read good things about Hostal Jaen so I'm happy, although not all that surprised, that you had a good experience there. Free WiFi internet too, I understand.
