hello,
I am hoping to venture to Pamplona for San Fermin, but I am clueless as to where to stay that weekend... or if it is even too late to find a place; I hear lots of people even sleep in the park, true?
I am just looking for a little or a lot of information, about how the entire weekend works, and how to be in the middle of it, and where might be a good place to rest my head at night,...
although there will be plenty of Sangria floating around, where might I sleep?
thank you in advance for replying,
Joseph

I did the running on the bulls 3 years ago when I was living in Spain. It is a great and fantastic experience to say the least BUT be forewarned that you are WAY too late to find a place to stay. And yes, you can sleep in the park, many people do but that is the same park where people will be partying all day and all night and even going to the bathroom. Needless to say not very sanitary. You more or less have to try and stay awake and party through the night. If you haven't made travel plans to get to Pamplona- hurry and do so because trains and buses fill up quick. But go and have a blast- one of the best parties of the year.

Alright, this was twenty years ago, but I also arrived at Pamplona for the Sanfermines without any pre-booking and I succeeded to find a place in a hostal (HR) at the last minute. Just arrive early enough, start searching in the morning, and be prepared for some foodwork - and to pay more than usual.

Last time I went to San Fermin my wife and I stayed in the national Parador in Olite. It is a picturesque small town. You’ll need to rent a car unfortunately. You can check out the room rates on the web.
It was a about a 30 minute drive from Pamplona which meant we had to get up early to see the running of the bulls, but it also meant you were staying someplace that wasn’t packed with rowdy drunken euro trash. We would generally come back after lunch take a leisurely siesta and be refreshed for the night’s activities. I especially liked the street dances.

I JUST now found the following link: http://www.pamplona.com/turismo/index.htm This link is a directory to, among others, links to other lodging establishments in and NEAR Pamplona in the Navarra province. So if Pamplona itself is already booked-up (which it probably is) you could try someplace requiring just a little travel. There, you'll find links to hotels, "pensiones", & "hostales". Good luck! Ok, now what about getting there?
I am coming from MADRID,... do you think the trains will be fully booked?
I mean... if I rent a car,... I CAN always sleep in it.
I am guessing I will be trying to get there late thursday night... or early friday
