Hi all I was just wondering how everybody thought up your nickname to come on this forum. We all have our own so i shall tell you how i got mine.I was searching google for Madrid and up came this site. It said sign up here and whilst thinking about it put in billy the man because that was the first name i could think of. Before i knew it i was signed up as billy the man which is not what i would have been liked to have been called but never mind. It taught me to read all the rules for any other forum im on. If you go on other forums you would recognize me under a differant name

Hi billy the man! I'm MadridMan! :jump: billy the man, you can always change your username - don'tcha know - by going into your "my profile" and changing it there. But, of course, if you change it now we may not recognize you. Saludos, MadridMan

I just put my name as I was given it at birth, but no-one still calls me that, not even my mum, it just gets shortened to Sally. My Dad chose my name and i'm named after the salvation army (oh joy:()

Hi, I was nicknamed la duque when I got married and it stuck. My given name is Lisa Aragon and my married apellido is Duque, so la duque is my initials and last name, and since i'm the feminine part of this Duque union, the "la" sort of stuck .

Booklady signifies my gender and my profession as a librarian. Not very imaginative, I'm afraid.

Well, I was planning a trip to Madrid in July of 2001 when I found this website......ergo GoMadrid.
That first trip was the launchpad for our adventure of living in Madrid for three months in 2002.

I live in New York City. Most people have heard of it and know where it is. Also I use it on other websites too. Bill

In my case it's a combination of where I come from and what I am.
NO&DO is an emblem from Sevilla that means "No me ha dejado", "Did not abandon me, did not betray me or did not desert, did not leave me"
Apparently King Alfonso X had some power dispute with his heir and some cities took sides on the revolting side but not Sevilla which stayed true to the King and sought refuge and protection there.
In order to understand it you'd have to know that the Spanish word for wool skein is "Madeja" which is simbolized by that peculiar number-eight-looking-thing symbol "&"
So, in Spanish "No&Do" reads "No madeja do" which sounds very close to the propper "No me ha dejado" with the meaning above.
Pretty easy, eh? It's everywhere in Sevilla.
And the Yankaluz is a combination of my own for Yankee and Andaluz. Yankee's still almost a synonym to an American from USA regardless of how deep in the woods of the south you might be from,,, ironic but true,,, so there you have it. No&Do Yankaluz (Sevillano Americano-Andaluz) o algo asi,,, hahaha.... but you can call me Tony for short, OK.
Tony.

Maybe someone can answer me a question ... Why is it that forums / discussion boards use these nicknames . I've met quite a few people from this message board when they've come to Madrid and have usually had a quick initial introduction .. names etc... And it confuses me ! I'm not sure which "real" names fit which message board nicknames ! Maybe i'm just getting old !
Steve .

Well I guess steve robinson will not get confused if we ever meet. Vicki is the nickname for my given name Victoria. That is what all of my friends call me so I picked it for this forum. Terribly uncreative on my part.

I can't say I speak for admiral44, but I interpreted his post as a reply to billy the man's note about his cricket forum and the people who argue on that particular page.

Well, my nickname was given to me by my wife. She called me her big bear because of my bearhugs she used to love. I also enjoy astronomy and I thought that ursa major would match my nickname but it sounded too feminine, so I changed it to OsoMajor. BTW, NO&DO...I really like your nickname. Regarding the use of the word Yankee to refer to Americans even Southerners. Yes, it's a reference to all Americans from outsiders, but as a native Texan, I can tell you right now that no Texan would ever call himself a Yankee!

Saludos a todos. Some interesting stories on nicknames and how you chose them. I liked Sparkalina the best, it made me laugh. As for me and my nickname, it is a combination of my ancestry. My parents moved to Canada from Spain many years ago and I was born and live in Canada although I also hold Spanish citizenship(very handy). So, I just combined them to create my alter-ego CAN SPAN. I think it is an alright nick though it reminds me of some sort of trucking or moving company.
