Volunteers needed (Madrid)

We are looking for volunteers to work as part of a team helping to run the public awareness and fundraising campaign Building Lives Abroad: Expatriates for Refugees designed by the NGO RESCATE.

RESCATE - Comité Internacional de Rescate - is a Madrid-based non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that works with refugees and displaced peoples. Our mission is to address the needs of individuals who have been forced to flee their homes due to armed conflicts, natural disasters or personalized persecution based on race, creed or beliefs. Started in 1960, initially as the Spanish arm of the International Rescue Committee, RESCATE became a legally autonomous Spanish NGO in 1992. For further information please see our website: www.ongrescate.org .

Building Lives Abroad is an ongoing movement targeting the international community of Madrid that promotes recognition of the fact that whether we came here through personal choice (such as expatriates) or were forced to flee here due to extreme circumstances (such as refugees) we all belong to the same community: That of people building lives abroad here in Spain. This is a public awareness campaign designed to educate, encourage volunteerism and raise funds amongst the international community in support of refugees both here in Spain and globally.

As the campaign targets the international community, the ability to speak Spanish would be useful but not necessary. Specifically we are looking for volunteers to work in the following areas:

1.) A small core group of dedicated volunteers to work with the RESCATE staff in the management of the campaign. Particularly working in the areas of campaign design, events management and marketing. We need individuals who can commit to spending at least 8-10 hours each week, and previous experience in similar work would be of benefit.

2.) Volunteers to work on an ad hoc basis to help at fundraising and public awareness events and to distribute publicity material at expatriate venues.

Anyone interested please email rescate@ongrescate.org.
