Well have a great time. This is my third trip to madrid and I know a few good places. I'll have a crew of at least three, possibly a few more.

The details are open so we can make it the sixth if its better for those involved.

What do you guys think?

You will be there. I'm going to make a life like cardboard cutout so you won't be missed. I just hope I can get it though customs???
I'll make sure we salute you.

Paloma I can't wait to hang out with you again. Do you still keep in contact with Maria Paz?
Don't fear Shannon will come or my name isn't Joesambuca. Hey paloma, since you live in Madrid maybe you can pick the first bar. I was thinking of something near Huertas???

I do keep in touch with MariPaz, she's great!!!, and I'll introduce you to a girlfriend that's going to steal your heart(she just has that effect on every guy); also, if Chica/Becky joins us....we'll be having a riot! (sangría HAS THAT effect, ha, ha! wink )

Wow!!!!
So far I have a count of at least 12
fantástico!!!!!!!

Paloma made a good suggestion, Los Gabrieles.
If I may be so bold to suggest this place as a starting point (for now) 8PM. What does the rest of the crew think???

Paloma, the thought of waiting 3 months to be in Madrid is " atroz" but with the promise of meeting one of your beautiful friends now makes it unbearable...he! he! Ayúdeme Dios.

Hey Madridman you reading this???

I know if we change it to the 5th it may be difficult for you to make it on time but as the Marines say, "we leave no one behind" so maybe we should move the party back to 9:30PM.

Joe --

Keep posting, I think the magic number is 35 posts before you get senior status.

Chestnut Hill is a beautiful area. If you want restaurant recommendations, let me know. There is a Spanish restaurant on South Street called Mallorca (Second and South). I wasn´t impressed by the food, but friends of mine have been back since and really enjoy it.

If you are feeling rather $$ try Pasión on 15th and Locust. Very good Argentinian beef! laugh

Anyway, where are we starting on the 5th? Are we all going to be wearing Madrid Man shirts or something? : )

Although I seriously doubted that a place like Los Gabrieles would be already open at 20PM but I checked yesterday and it is; I move that we start off someplace where we can stuff ourselves, hem! I mean EAT some tapas so we can handle all the 'cervecitas' and 'vinitos' coming afterwards, and we're not the only ones at all the bars! wink

Note: if we opt for that, PLEASE do not have supper at around 19PM! laugh

Hola All:

Chica thanks for the suggestions in Philly...they sound really good

We'll find eachother. More than likely we'll all have that lost / searching look in our eyes but it's probably a good idea to set something formal up.

We should meet in a smaller venue where it won't be too difficult to locate each other.

OK - 9.30 in some bar, looking for lost people! Hmmm...........
Is it going to be eating first, then onto drinks, or just a night of alcoholism? Either way, it is all good.

IDEA! We can book a table at a small bar/restaurant somewhere, under a name. When us newbies turn up, and say we are with party "XXX", we will be lead to the rest of the gang.

For the first-timers attending the get-together (I wanna be there - boo hoo) - if you are really concerned about finding people - there are a ton of pictures posted of previous MM meetings - take a look - that way you'll be able to recognize faces when you arrive -
Unless of course someone wants to hold up a flag saying MadridMan gathering - like so many of the Japanese tour guides do ... eek

Had a fab day in London yesterday, with JoeSambuca and Nate. Really wicked guys, although I can't actually vouch for Nate's sanity!
Came up with ideas for the party. REALLY cheesy yellow t shirts with red arms "Madrid Man party 5/10/02" with Madridman's face on them, digitally enhanced to make his teeth look even BRIGHTER then they already are! Not my idea....have a go at Joe for that one!!! :p

uh Christine,
I think you slacked a bit. You're our leader, our commander and cheif, Our Moses.

Actually Christine is right, lets finalize the details. We have a start time and date. All we need is a staring loction which I think should be in a pub to start just so we can gather the troops.

I hope I can make this one. Now, what about the bar/tapas restaurant El Lacón. It's cheapish and cheerful, and just 2 doors down from the Gabrieles (in that alley cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme). They have a bar area where we can meet, and plenty of seating room on 2 floors so we could meet at 9.30pm and book a whole corner for 20+ MadridMan revellers for 10.30. We could even work out a set price in advance to include a cornucopia of tapas (the food's great) and wine/beer. 15-18 euros a head would be more than enough I'm sure. If it sounds like a good idea, tell me and we can get working on it. It is Saturday Oct. 5, isn't it?

I´d like to vote for a slightly earlier meeting time... 9pm? I come a distance and most likely will not be hanging out to the wee hours in the morning to admire Barry´s humongous bathroom, but rather head on back up the mountain...

9pm? 9pm? Does that work for everyone?
anyone? confused

Jill, whatever Riche said about me, it's not true!!! He is SUCH a tourist tho.
Riche, is there anywhere we can start which will be near to Plaza Mayor? I'm just thinking about time. Plane SHOULD land at 1900. By the time I have luggage, should be 1930. Then get to hostal by 2030. 9pm is good for me. How exciting! I won't be able to think straight for the next 2 months!

I'm really looking forward to this as well. We had a blast a few weekends ago when Jo-Anne and Miche flew into town and got us all together. It was my first MM gathering. After looking confused and alone for a bit, we all found each other and had lots o' fun.

Do look at Jo-Anne's photos she posted for an idea.

See you all on Sat % Oct at 9pm (21h)

Just 2 months Christine????
LOL

Allright, I have a sugesstion for a meeting spot and please bear in mind its only a meeting spot.
How about Moore's. It's in Plaza Mayor. Okay I know its a Irish Pub but its centrally located and it should be easy to locate and its small enough so no one gets lost.

We can meet there from 9Pm-10Pm and go elsewhere.

Si?
No?

:p

Sounds good to me, Riche. SOmewhere small so we can figure out who we all are, not that we'll be able to remember by the end of the night!
Now then, Riche, about those T-shirts...........

come one people, let's get planning. Barry, I like your idea - is it anywhere near the plaza mayor tho, or would I have to walk around a bit?

OK, shall we start at Moore's between 9-10pm, then go on to where Barry suggested, making a booking for 10.30? Is that OK? Barry, would you make the booking a bit nearer the time?

i think as the party approaches, we should perhaps start a new thread that has the exact place and time, etc., since this one is so long already, and there are so many different ideas. i´m afraid i might not read far enough and go to the wrong place. and guess what? i´m in sevilla right now! it´s so great to be here. i go to madrid on september 13th or so.
