Shawn, do you know Melendi?. If you like Estopa then I guess you'll like Melendi also. He has a similar style. But don't think about understanding the lyrics. Slang, pronunciation and references to everyday life in Spain would make it very difficult.

Try Melendi's album Sin noticias de Holanda.

Great idea smile

I may suggest El Canto del Loco:
  • Puede ser (with Amaia Montero from La Oreja de Van Gogh
  • Zapatillas
  • Preguntas
  • A contracorriente
  • Besos
  • Crash

and Revolver (Carlos Goñi) (any song).
I've heard that the spanish music market is one of the biggest ones. There are virtually dozens of groups and singers, some of them really good. Listen them, you won't regret it smile

Hi Fernando,

Good suggestion. I was also going to post a message about them.

Let me add the following songs by El Canto del Loco:

  • Son sueños
  • La madre de José
  • Ya nada volverá a ser como antes
  • Insoportable
  • Una foto en blanco y negro

I see too much 40 ppales and mainstream music in this thread, and there are many others group that i´d rather listen, but are not supported by radios.
Carlos Chaouen, Quique González, Los Piratas, Fito & Fitipaldis, Platero y tú, Los Limones, Paco Bello, Marea, Mago de Oz, Antonio Vega, Family, Sexy Sadie, Jet Lag...
Check this names, i hope you´ll like 'em

Great recommendations!

I already had A Contracorriente by El Canto del Loco, and have loved it. However, I wasn't very familiar with Melendi before your recommendations. As a result, I have been listening to small samples through the internet and have liked them so much that I bought Sin Noticias de Holanda. The song titled Con La Luna Llena is particularly good, I can't wait for the CD to arrive.

Antonio & Fernando,

When I was last in Spain Café Quijano was quite popular, are they still performing?

Cheers

Hi Shawn! Good to hear from you smile

Yes, they are still there, though their last CD is from 2003. They will probably publish another one anytime soon. You may check (and listen all their songs!!!!) their website at www.cafequijano.com .

Antonio: I forgot those songs, and I like them soooo much! Thanks for remembering.

Fernando and I were chatting for a while and nobody else entered the chat room.

Only Shawn seems to be interested in Spanish music :-(.
