I just wanted to point out that, even with a million records sold in spanish, Laura Pausini is italian.

I'll be in Madrid first week of October and looked up the Alejandro Sanz website but could not find when he'll be in concert. I think MM commented on that. Antonio, any talk in Spain (since he'll have a new album out) if he'll be on tour anytime between October and December?

Um, um, Miguel Rios!! I am particullarly fond of the Gipsy Kings as well, French, Spanish whatever.... While Enrique isn't bad to look at, my heart still pitter patters for his adorable father more, Julio!!! The other son has also gotten many of his father's fine features!

Yeah, Radio Vinillo and "Los 40 principales" were the best. Too bad Radio Vinillo went out of business and "40 Principales" turn to a too commercial radio station...

Francisco, yes, I meant Radio Vanilo, but when I listened faithfully, 84-87, there was a DJ that would say, "Radio Vanilolololololo" It would drive my husband nuts that he(the DJ) would talk through half the song!

Ketama Jarabe de Palo Radio Tarifa (saw them in London)
Placido Domingo (!Granada! Tu tierra esta llena, de lindas mujeres, de sangre del sol!) Ole!
Camaron, Tomatito, Moraito, Paco Penia. "Agua pura, que lleva el rio" Falla, Albeniz.
About the only thing I don't like is Spanish rock music, but then I don't much like any rock music (after about 1976!)

Thank you Antonio!
The listening experience was delightfull. I recommend other posters tune into the links provided by MadridMan. My previous knowledge of Spanish music was quite limited, but after an evening of listening to it with the added insights from Antonio I feel slightly more informed on the Spanish popular music scene.
This tutorial Spanish might have been a costly one though, as I now feel compeled to upgrade my computer speakers and sound card. Additionally, I will have to purchase a least one of Alejandro Sanz's disc, and perhaps several of Jose El Frances whose fusing of flamenco and pop is outstanding.
This a bit far afield, but it seems to me that Antonio should find computer work with a music recording company. His passion for music coupled with his computer expertize makes for a fantastic career path. Capital, Virgen, et al give Antonio a call!
Spain truly is "todo abajo el sol"
