Tonight we're all Spanish!
Now Spain has the opportunity to heal the wounds, not only of the last few days, but of the last few years. I wish them well.

I offer my congratulations to the Spanish people. My thoughts are with you.

What a country! A magnificent, dignified multi-million person national turnout on the day after the murderous bombings.

An organised government attempt made to mislead international public opinion as to the culprits behind the bombing.

The very late, relative to general election day, public realisation of the subterfuge afoot, a larger than usual election turnout, and then a decisive vote for change.

Fupanier,

The Fascists have just lost in Spain. It is important to remember that the discontent at the social, educational and economic policies of Aznar's government has been a important factor there too.

Things that will not happen in Spain in the next couple of months:

1. Any noticeable increase in the sale of duct tape.
2. Any incidents of flour, sugar, salt, cocaine etc. being mistaken for Anthrax.
3. Run on gas masks at army surplus stores.
4. Complete shutdown of national rail system for several days.
5. Close family members of suspected organizer of attacks being secretly flown out of country.
6. Head of State holing up in underground bunker until coast is clear.
7. Severe shortage of tinned tomatoes, sardines etc.
8. Head of State heard to say "Bring it on" in conversation with aides.
9. Lots of sill colour-coded terrorist warnings designed to frighten the population.

I agree with calling them fascists. I heard that some people who were initially involved with the PPE were Franco supporters.

I think they're gone now though.

You don't need to do those things - if you surrender!

By the way, I'll have to take your word for it that they were facists. That term is thrown around pretty easily. How 'bout Saddam Hussein, where did he fall?

Well, I would not call 42% of the vote as "decisive" but it will be very intersting to say the least over the next few months to see so many questions get answered.

It was far easier to talk up a game than play it. Will Z sever the relationship buillt up between Spain and the US under Aznar-Bush and go hat in hand to France and Germany? Will Z fight Al-Q and ETA with US as a partner? WIll Z go at it alone on a new course?

Anti-Americanism (like Z's stunt at the Columbus Day parade) can only go so far...

Taken into account the share of the vote given to ERC and IU, I'd say the left did very well. :-)

Yeah, hopefully the PSOE can defend Spain because the terrorists don't give a flying f*** what political party you are. We in the states were attacked many times under Clinton, a Democrat, and once under Bush, a Republican. Hopefully, SOON, you leftists will realize that terrorists do not CARE!!!!!!!
