In the US they have "America's Dumbest Criminals" on TV. It looks like France is test-marketing "France\'s Dumbest Prison Guards" .

Way to go, Pierre.

And I will have you know that prison guard can cook better than ANY American one. So there.

Geez! Imagine the poor guards who let the guy escape. Since Devil's Island is no longer in service, they will probably have to serve a ten day suspension without drinking French wine. They'll have to drink the water. eek

Asterault - Actually chicken describes both sexes. Roosters & hens are the "denominations." It was kind of funny. I can picture the French Foreign Legion battling in some far of spot - under siege - and the commander running up a flag with a chicken on it. That would sure send the wrong message to the enemy. rolleyes

Wolf (Who loves baked chicken, but please, not on my flags, even if it is a rooster.)

You are all SO FUNNY I am beside myself. A full explanation of symbols of the country can be found here, in English even:

Espe3: I only glanced at the article once, but I think in the body of the article it explains that for a number of years now, there are "vis à vis" visits allowed, which take place in a small room with NO video surveillance, only "checking in from the outside hallway". Please reread the title of this post, emphasizing the word "STUPID". I'm sure that some French lobby said that taping the visits was an invasion of privacy or some silly ACLU-esque idea...

As for the rooster/chicken...I just say "Le Coq Sportif!"

Sincerely,
Yannick Noah

AStersault,
I can understand you defending Spain, but France. Don't they do just about what they want to around the world (many times at Spain's expense) Yes, yes the US does too, the difference is, we pay for it.
tisk tisk tisk, ASter, I'm ashamed smile

Personally, I liked Asterault's description of it in the beginning. A chicken. It conjurs up all kinds of possibilities, and smiles. Puns are very good. They give us a lot of room for creating our own image. Like mine, of the French Foreign Legion.

Wolf (Who's checking out which French prison has 3rd year drop-outs from the Sarbonne cooking in them. If you gotta do the time, at least make sure it's in a place that has great food!)

ok, well, rooster, chicken, doesn't really matter does it? Neither are the most intelligent animals of the bunch are they? I read an article on the prison.. the guards also have way many more people to look after then they should, but hey! To break the law in France. Well now we know where to go! ;P

All this animal talk has got me thinking: Which came first, the rooster or the chicken; the lion or the bull? I figure with all the know-it-alls on this board, we ought to be able to get to the bottom of this post-haste. :p
