I'll likely be doing a Madrid relocation this summer. If I was to spend 100.000/month on a piso, which neighbourhood would be the best call, all things considered? I am looking for something with decent life and not stogy like Salamanca.

Lavapiés
Alonso Martínez
Chueca
Argüelles

or other suggestions.

Gracias

Asterault,

When I visited my daughter last Dec-00-Jan -01, I stayed with her senora who lives in Arguelles. I found Arguelles safe and closed to the Metro - Arguelles and Moncla stops, El Cortes Ingles, fresh market produce, shopping, cozy tapas bar and a beautiful park.

Lavapies - her senora did not have good things to say but be careful in that area. We did go to Lavapies and seemed okay but does not have the trimmings of Arguelles.

Hi Asterault! Summer in Madrid, eh? HOT HOT HOT! hehehe..

Say, I just did a SEARCH using MADRID NEIGHBORHOOD as my keywords, searched all forums, and came up with some good threads, some even titled "Safe Areas of Madrid", "Neighborhoods of Madrid" and such. Check it out! laugh

Ahem! I did search! Really!

But my question is kind of more detailed.

Si y Madrid es un horno en verano...

Look into the areas of Embajadores and Delicias (where the 'Chairman' lives).

Mis suegros live in Embajadores...I love this neighborhood with a wonderful paseo, parques, and a convienent metro stop...It is also only about a mile from the Plaza Mayor and center of town, so one can take 2 metro stops to Sol and walk home (all down hill),and close the El Rastro...
They own about 5 pisos in and around Madrid that they rent out, they actually just rented out a 3 bedroom piso right on the paseo there, 5th floor with balcony for about 750 U.S. dollars a month,, a bargain considering this was their own previous home, completely remodeled (they now live in a bigger piso down the street)

Also, I like the neighborhood at and near the metro stop San Bernardo on C/San Bernardo, my American friends have lived their for 10 years and love it!!!

I completely agree with mclarke. If I were you I'd choose Argüelles area.

Lavapiés is an older a poorer area of Madrid. Also, Argüelles is much safer than Lavapiés.

Laduque, would you mind terribly emailing me the information for your inlaws? I would like to contact them in the future sometime. Thanks

Also, if anyone else has pisos... or knows someone. Thanks.

Hey!!! U should look for an apartment in Moncloa or Agelleres...or however u spell that....its very nice and safe, and close to everywhere nice. Madrid Man has links to accomodation pages: one is called roommadrid and the other is inmadrid...they are great and not expensive.

Good luck!

Within the 100.000ptas/month range I would also vote for Arguelles or Alonso Martinez.
