we're looking for a nice and friendly gym in Madrid - not too flashy. I don't want to have to put make-up on before I start sweating. Do you know of any good gyms with both weights and a bit of aerobics? And what is the "normal" membership fee?

I think you can find anyone close to your home or job.
The council ones have a really good price.

Privates gym usually are around 40-50€/month although they have more flexibility with timetables.

There is an american franchise called Holiday Gym which has some gyms in Madrid.

The problem is that they are expensive, they make you pay a year in advance, and are usually quite crowded.

Probably your best choice is to install yourself first in Madrid and then ask your neighbours where is the nearest gym.
