Hello,

Could anyone fill me in on some charming hostals/hotels in Madrid? For my first visit to Spain, I am willing to spend up to 35EU for a single or 60-65EU for a double. I am more interested in the charm of the exterior and rooms than anything, though quiet is somewhat important too. Most of you mention cleanliness, but not charm! I am not interested in "chains" like Best Western.

for my money the MOST charming hostal in madrid is HOSTAL MACARENA

the location is exquisite, the rooms tastefully appointed and the sevice fantastic. to have a really nice experience ask for a balcony room .

the wine bar next door has a remarkable list of wines and one block towards calle mayor there is an indoor food market with fresh produce and goods. the location of this hostal on cava baja is great because the area is littered with some of madrid's best known restaurants. such as Botín restaurant
