WOW - they have either MOVED THE WEBCAM or the live stream is COMING FROM ANOTHER LOCATION. The transmission is now showing a procession with the image of the Virgin of Rocio being carried through streets, accompanied by music and singing and shouts of VIVA.
Time now 1420 CET.

RobbieRoy:

You solicited some comments ...

When I was there for Pentecost Sunday in 2002 (everyone said there were a million particpants: Police estimate 600,000) there was a 'staged' kodnapping. The Statue of la virgen disappeared from el Santuario. Pentecost Monday, the statue was recovered and Processed triumphantly to the Basilica.

I think that's a part of the Celebration although I don't see it mentioned in the description or History of the Event rolleyes

Thanks Eddie - interesting information. I tried a Google search to find out some more about this, but failed miserably!

Romeria Update
The pilgrims (Romeros) are now on thier way to Almonte. The various hermandades or brotherhoods are making their way in traditional fashion from a variety of towns in Andalucia towards Almonte (the village of Rocio), for example, Canal Sur website reports that:
from Huelva 8000 people, 3000 horses, 102 gardiners, 38 traditional horse-drawn carriages and 72 tractors are en camino (on the road).
