Okay I can see these tickets in bars, shops everywhere for the 22 December draw. THey are normally for 20 Euros (being 1 tenth of the full ticket). I also appreciate that the prize is prob. many tens of Euro millions. What I want to know is how many winning tickets are drawn out. If there is only one big winner (divided by 10 people I suppose) then the chances of winning it are incredibly small. Even smaller than other national lotteries. Anyone out there who can enlighten me?

The advertised prize, in this case, the maximum prize will be 2.000.000€ is given to every "billete" (or group of ten "décimos" or tenths).

So, if you buy a participation of 20€ you can hope to win a maximum of 200.000€.

No matter how many series of billetes they sell, each billete has a 2.000.000 prize, and each "tenth" has a 200.000 prize (max.), along with many others: 96.000€, 48.000€, and so on.

Hope this helps. smile

Any chance of a flow diagram, pie chart, mind map, or something to help those brain cell challenged people like me understand it a little better?

I'm sure your explanation above is perfect, it's just me frown

I remember trying to suss it out last year and getting nowhere rolleyes

Thanks.

Hi,

To put it short: if you win the first prize (El Gordo), it is 10,000 times the money you've paid.

Greetings

or for the probability of winning in layman's terms...I probably have a better chance of being struck by lightning. But you know..good luck.

Let's put it this way:

-They have a number of "series". Let's say 50 (or 90?, I don't really know).

-Each of these series has 100.000 numbers, called "billetes". They range from 00000 to 99999. All the series have the same numbers.

-For each of these series (for each of the 100.000 participations) you have in Christmas the following prizes:

1- 2.000.000 euros
1- 960.000 euros
1- 480.000 euros
2- 200.000 euros
4- 48.000 euros
2- 20.000 euros
2- 12.000 euros
2- 9.600 euros
1531 - 1000 euros
297 - 1000 euros
1977 - 1000 euros
6599 - 200 euros

Buying a full participation will entitle you to have the possibility of earning one of these prizes. Cost 200 euros.

Buying (what's usual) a tenth, what's called "un décimo" entitles you to get one tenth of these prizes. Cost 20 euros.

If (let's say) there are 100 series, then they would give:

100 * 1- 2.000.000 euros
100 *1- 960.000 euros
100 *1- 480.000 euros
100 *2- 200.000 euros
100 *4- 48.000 euros
100 *2- 20.000 euros
100 *2- 12.000 euros
100 *2- 9.600 euros
100 *1531 - 1000 euros
100 *297 - 1000 euros
100 *1977 - 1000 euros
100 *6599 - 200 euros

And the extracted number would be in the 100 series, and each full participation would get 2.000.000 euros, or whatever. smile

Jo, this is especially for you and me... I finally understand all the lingo involved with the lottery here in Spain (can you tell that I´m not a real gambler?! wink )

Ok, referring to the lottery tickets sold by the blind vendors for the O.N.C.E... or in the little ticket booths.

You will notice that all of the individual tickets are part of a sheet of other tickets with the same number. This entire sheet is called a "billete" and is comprised of exactly 10 tickets, referred to in Spanish as "décimos" (one tenth) or "cupones".

Each sheet, or "billete" has a 5-digit number assigned to it which ranges from 00000-99999. This 5-digit number appears on each of the 10 individual tickets or "cupones"

There are numerous copies of these sheets produced for the lottery, and each copy has a unique series number (série). This series number also appears on each of the 10 individual tickets.

So, for example, let´s take the number 12345. We know that there are 10 tickets with the number 12345 on a sheet. However, this sheet is reproduced numerous times and each reproduction is a specific series. So, aside from the number 12345, a series number will also be included on the individual ticket which will identify where it was sold. So, there may be xx number of tickets numbered 12345 (many series reproduced), but there will only be 10 tickets numbered 12345 with the series number 1 for example.

In addition to the series number (série), and the billete number, each individual ticket "cupon" or "décimo" also has a unique number assigned to it, I suppose 1-10.

So while there are xxx numbers of tickets with the sheet or "billete" number 12345, there are only ten tickets with the sheet number 12345 pertaining to series 1 and only one ticket with sheet number 12345 pertaining to series 1 and ticket number 1.

Do you follow me or am I confusing you more?

So, summing up, each individual ticket (cupón or décimo) has three numbers on it: the ticket number, the sheet (billete) number and the series (série) number.

Having got all this lingo straight, Ignacio´s statistical break out makes much more sense to me!!!

I hope others have found this post helpful! smile

eek eek eek My brain is reeling! And I actually thought I had the system somewhat understood three or four posts ago! I am now 100% successfully back to square one of dumb-founded blank looks! :o
Someone care to try the suggested diagram or pie chart?

All i can understand is if the jackpot price is 2,000,000 euros divide by 10 un-decimo you get a share prize of 200,000 euros. So if you bought 5 billete you get half the jackpot prize. My brain refused to understand the rest.
