I will be in Madrid from Aug. 7-15/02 doing research for a new play on Ernest Hemingway. I am interested in buying a matador's cape and sword. Can anyone help? I have visited the Las Ventas site but found no answers. Any idea of the price?
Thanks, Brian.

Hello:
You will find what you are looking for in Madrid ("de Madrid al Cielo"!!). Just walk around the Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol area and you will find a lot of souvenirs (no shortage of them), perhaps even the sword. I have seen (bullfighting) swords in Toledo (you could always take a daytrip) but I am sure you will find what you need in Madrid. You will have to send it home via UPS or some other expeditor.
Good luck.

Hi BG Sinclair/Brian! Welcome to the group! Sounds like a very interesting project you have going!

Does anyone else think BG Sinclair could find the cape/sword at El Rastro on Sundays in Madrid?

Good luck on the project and enjoy yourself! Saludos, MadridMan

I forgot... My GUESSTIMATE on the price for the sword (depending on quality)will range from about $70 US to $350 US. Keep in mind that they may be "reproductions" A "real" one may go for around $500 US. My guesstimate.
Good luck.

You should be able to find the sword and cape in the Sol / Gran Via area if not in Plaza Mayor. I'm not sure on prices, its been many years since I bought a sword. There are many shops that deal just with swords and the like.

El Rastro would be a good place to look, but watch the quality (and your wallet).

Enjoy your stay and Madrid!

Of course, if all else fails, there's always the Corte Ingles. They're a bit pricey but they have just about everything. Particularly the one that is located by the Husa Princesa.
