Okay, I am thinking about the word ol olé and I would love to know if anyone uses this word in their daily lives...I have heard it at Bullfights or at a Flamenco show...but no where else...I am thinking about talking about olé in my class and would love to hear others thoughts on the word... mil gracias...

I'm sure the many many Spaniards we have here on the messsage board would have better input than me, a Yanqui, but I would doubt that Spaniards use the word ¡Olé! at all in their daily vocabulary.

Mmm, well, I think it's fairly common in Andalucia at least. I don't mean people go around shouting olé at each other in the street, but they use it in conversation as an exclamation.

It is more common in Andalucia than anywhere else, but still it is not used in regular basis. In the rest of Spain you won’t hear it outside the bullfights or a flamenco show.

Chus is right. In The time I spent in sevilla, I heard this word at bullfights and during flamenco shows.

Besides than in Flamenco and Toros, I only very rarely hear that expresion n the streets. One of the few in in the phrase "Ole tus c*jones" or "Ole, mi niña", but in these cases, outside Andalucía it loses its accent in letter "e".

I've heard variations of this such as "ale" and "hala" [as in "hala Madrid"] which has a different meeting entirely than "olé".

I can only assume its origins are Moorish. Can anyone corroborate this theory?
