An old time suggestion (and a good one): make two photocopies of all your credit cards and bank cards (front and back; the back shows the Cust. Serv. numbers).

Lo mismo con pasaporte and any ID card such as D/L.

Leave one copy at home. Take the other one with you. You know the rest... right?

I'm not sure if it's required, but in most Cities in Spain Taxistas will carry a list of Farmacias de Guardia for any given day. I needed one in Malaga once and my wife just asked a taxista to take her to the nearest Farmacia de Guardia.. The Farmacia de Guardia designation is not necessarily a permanent thing. I believe they rotate that duty.

Adding to JA's suggestion, a great idea is to scan all your important travel documents and email them to yourself (to a web based email account) so that you have access to them regardless of where in the world you are!

CHicago.........Good advice here. Just pack what you normally would for a 2 week trip. It is starting to get cold here at night so you will need a light coat. If you try to speak Spanish here and butcher it.......They are VERY forgiving.....Believe me I know (I live it every day). Be vigilant about your valuables but don't be paranoid....Good and bad people here (as there is in Chicago).
