Hi...

We'll be leaving for Madrid in about a week. The 15-day forcast shows high 70s-low 80s.

When we were in Rome, every little piazza had a fountain, most of which provided for drinking...very nice on a warm day of walking.

Are there many fountains in the plazas of Madrid? Can you drink from them?

Most plazas (at least in the Centro) have a little spigot off in a corner where you can fill up water bottles.

You'd better buy it.

Unless the fountain spigot has a sign which states "Agua No Potable" it should be safe to drink. That water should be coming from the public water system pipes.

I wouldn't, however, recommend dipping your water bottles into a flowing fountain sculpture :p or water spewing out of a cement lion's mouth or anything like that. I believe that water is recycled within the fountain.

Everyone fills their bottles up at the little spigots/water fountains. It's tap water. If you look for them, you'll see them all over the place. They aren't decorative, just a little box that comes to about waist height with a spigot.
