Has anyone got experience in Ávila? We are planning to be there a couple of days in October. What can we expect to do there?

We've read Karen Brown's Spain and have tentatively chosen to stay at la Hostería de Bracamonte. Any feedback on this?

Not much to DO in Avila other than walk around the walled city, check out some nice churches, explore the history of Teresa of Avila, drink cafe, etc. It gets cold at night in Avila. Very. It's a fine place for a day or two, but if you are looking for more to do, head one hour west to Salamanca, which does have more of a lively scene. rgf

I agree that there isn't much to do in Avila. But, it is a great city to visit.
The walls around the city are very impressive.
And, it does get very cold in Avila. In october it may not be so bad. I spent a night there in December and I'll never forget feelign the cold winds as I walked around the city at night.

I spent a day in Avila. It is worth seeing, but I came home to Madrid with a horrible cold. Definately be prepared for the cold weather.
