We will have several hours to kill at the airport next week between our international flight and domestic flight. Is there a duty free shop in terminal T1 or just some small shops, bars, etc.? Also, how much time should we allow to get from T1 to T2 and how early do we need to check in for a domestic flight. Thanks.

Rainman-- there are interesting shops, cafes, etc. in the newly remodelled Barajas airport. It doesn't take long to walk between terminals-- 10-15 mins at most. If you only have a few hours, you should be able to get a nice cafe con leche or already start on some of the good jamon/chorizo, buy a local newspaper, etc. They've fancied up the airport so there are many distractions!

Hi rainman, i just got back from madrid last night, so i spent a few hours in the airport yesterday. There are many shops there, so you can spend a while shopping. They have a great museum shop, and shops where you can buy food products that are typical of spain. LOTS of jamon, but also, candy and olives, cookies,(you get the idea!) anyway, it's fun to browse even if you don't buy anything.
