Retiring in Spain

Retiring in Spain - 03/04/05 04:25 PM

I know this is not exactly the subject of this particular message board, but I didn't see any other place to post this question.

I would like to retire in Spain. I have been to the SpainExpat.com web site and looked at the subject area of "Residence visa to retire in Spain." But, of the requirements listed, two of the requirements (statements) concern me. The first one states, "Proof of any other source of income and/or properties in Spain (The anual minimum is $10,000 increased by $1,700 for each dependant)."

The part in parenthesis is what I'm concerned about. What exactly is meant by the annual minimum is $10,000? What I mean is, do I need to have another source of income other than my US pension? I do have a pension (retirement salary) from a US source of more than $15,000 a year.

The second statement states, "Original certificate of a public or private institution certifying that you receive a pension, specifying its monthly amount."

If all that is required is a minimum $10,000 annual pension, it seems to me that the statement in parenthesis, ie. (The anual minimum is $10,000 increased by $1,700 for each dependant), should actually come after the second statement and not the first. Can anyone give me their opinions on this. I would just like some clarification before I start proceeding with my plans. Bottom line is: Do I need another source of income other than my $15,000 annual US pension to retire in Spain?

Hi!

I think it's enough with the 15.000$ pension. The most important part is that you have a real and stable income.

There are lots of foreign pensionists living in Spain. I've got a friend from Granada; he's from a village in the mountains and half of the population there are foreigners.

I'd contact the Spanish & American Embassies for further information:

1. Spanish Embassy in the US

2. US Embassy in Spain

3. Spanish Consulates in the US

Good luck smile
