Advice on NIE - 11/06/04 11:54 AM

I interviewed for a teaching position and have been offered the job. The only potential problem I may have is I was told by my employer I will need an NIE number.

I will be in Madrid legally with a student visa. I've heard some horror stories about people going through these processes with complaints and I belive some that gave up out of frustration.

Can anyone provide me with information about what I need to do and perhaps some advice based on experience. I have searched the sight and believe I need to go to the police station to obtain.....how long does it actually take to get an NIE?

BTW - have met a few people out here through the MadridMan sight and we have had a great time so far!!!

As I remember, it takes about a month after you turn in your paperwork for the student residency to get your NIE. You will receive a letter in the mail that tells you to pay a fee at a bank and then come in for fingerprints at the comisaria. The letter will have your NIE on it. Then you get your actual residency card 20 days later, with your NIE on it.
