Networking - Graphic/Web designers, Illustrators, writers. - 12/04/02 06:02 PM

Hello
My wife and I are flying to Spain for holidays dec 18 and will stay for 3 weeks.

I am a graphics designer/Web designer/Illustrator in Reykjavik
As 80-90% of my business goes on via internet and telephone my clients wouldn't even know if I would move permanently 10000 km away to Spain.
Website @ http://www.totil.com/index_eng.html

My wife is in a similar work situation. She is a journalist and author of 4 books.

What we might or might not do is let out our flat and move to Spain sometime in the next 24 months and set up our operation there for a year or so.

We are trying to make contact with local people who are working in our field anywhere in Spain. Who are writing and designing. Or internationals who have had similar ideas and carried them out.

I am not so naive as to think that we will work for local clients. I lived in Barcelona for 9 months in my pre-internet era and have a realistic picture.
But I do see some kind of cooperation going on. For example I am starting to work with a web-programmer located in Denmark next year.

I read and speak Spanish but my spelling is pretty horrible.
My wife does not speak much Spanish but she is taking lessons.

Hasta luego

I'm not sure, but on your website, you may want to put your CV into English! And probably another version in Spanish. You never know where who may want you to work for them, but if they can read your CV, that would be a start!

Being that you're from Iceland, the only problem I think you may have is the Visa stuff. You can go on an independant work visa, but you need to have a certain amount of money in the bank for that. Are you planning to be there legally or you don't care?

You missed the CV -> http://www.totil.com/1_eng/1.html

I am not sure if I need a Visa if I work for clients other than local and enroll in school part time.
I have enough time to find out:)
I am going to do everything legally.

Thanks for your reply !

My English CV is seriously outdated - but thats
another story ...

There is another way I guess, a sneaky one, but legal. Since you come from Iceland, you first register a company/or privately in Denmark ( you are then inside EC), and transfer from there to Spain in a couple of weeks. As a Icelander you are free to work in the Nordic countries. You might have Danish ancestors, and that might help. A Norwegan friend did a simular thing via Sweden, to Italy. his grandfather came from Sweden.

Relax:)
I do not want to work in Spain. I want to work for Reykjavik clients and give Eoros to my spanish friends. Posibly by working over internet from say, Madrid or Alicante. Rigth now I am, believe or not, in Cadiz city in a cyber cafe on caje Abreu. Me and my wife are really happy here.
Sun and 20 degrees. Cheers.
