Madrid: Teaching English in an Academia? How much? - 01/11/02 08:00 PM

Hi all,

I was just wondering how much you can expect to make in Madrid working under the table in a private academy. Is it hard to find enough hours to get by?

I have no EC papers.

Thanks in advance.

You can expect to earn anywhere between 1,000 - 2,500 pesetas (6 - 15 Euros) an hour. There is quite a demand here for English teachers, particularly if you are a native speaker. The ability to find enough hours "to get by" really depends on the time of year that you are here and where in Spain you will be. There are academies willing to hire those without papers, so long as those without the papers are willing to take the risk. Check out Tracy´s site, www.expatriatecafe.com (did I get the address right Tracy/MM?). It is chock full of excellent information and insider´s tips on teaching English here in Spain.
