Exercise - Jogging Shorts

Exercise - Jogging Shorts - 08/07/00 11:08 AM

I've noticed the thread on not wearing shorts. I was planning on taking a couple pairs of jogging shorts and jogging in the early morning around town - Salamanca. Is that a truly awful idea? I can't imagine it would be that bad. I did the same thing in South India and had no problem, saw wealthier Indians doing the same thing. I can't imagine that Spain is more conservative than India. Oh, I'm female by the way just in case there are any significant gender differences.

Jogging in appropriate clothes is fine! It's the going in restaurants, walking around town in athletic apparel that is a no-no. Lots of people jog by the river in Salamanca, and also in the Alamedilla park. rgf

As rgf say, wearing jogging clothes (shorts, t-short, track suit, etc.) for jogging is perfectly fine. It's just when you jog in a sweater with kacky pants and leather loafers that you can draw stares. hehehee..

Children and some adults do wear track suits as their casual (even daily) wear, but usually in the colors of their favorite local soccer/fútbol team.

Super-curious about how people dress for jogging? At least 2 joggers were "captured" (but not against their will) as part of the opening segment's Retiro Park scenery on MadridMan's Madrid Video .

On the subject of running. I leave for Madrid in a few days and will be staying for four months as a student. I'd like to get in my morning runs and am wondering if you could recommend some trails or parks.

Yeah, classic running/jogging areas are the Retiro, the Parque del Oeste, and... if you are Madonna (really, she did this), right down the Castellana in the early morn!
