Any discotecs in particular or just in general? I imagine some are better than others. They say that some of the Barcelona discotecs are just amazing while some in Valencia can be more tame in comparison. Every city has great discotecs, I'm sure. And where there are discotecs there's dancing.

It depends on the style of music you like, the kind of discotheque you like (small vs huge) and, at the end, with the people you go. Going solo can be very very boring, going with friends should always be great smile

I found the discos to be alright for the experience of staying out all night and meeting people, but not nearly so much fun as bars and cafes. Speaking about Madrid, they are generally expensive and can play some pretty boring music. Lots of dancing, not as much fun. Then again, we were pretty clueless about where to go, so we could have just had a lackluster experience.

I've heard (not actually been) that La Kapital in Madrid is good. It has 7 or 8 different levels with different music in it. They are apparently picky on dress code too.

I think going to a discoteca is a must, just for the experience, but I do say that bars/tapa places are much better for good conversation with friends.

I would recommend Kapital....good fun! And the different floors are awesome, cause its like 7 clubs in one. PLus the top lounge area is great. Another club in Madrid that I had lots of fun at was Joy.

What about places for teens? Are does anyone know of discotecas for teens that are actually fun? I will be leading a group of 14-16 year olds on a tour. We'll be in Madrid and Barcelona on the weekends.

Can anyone point me to a good internet map of Madrid? I would like to go to La Kapital (Zona Arganzuela) after stopping at La Taperia de la Abuela Teresa (near Plaza de Mayor) but I don't know if they are near each other.

Hi Binky --

There are two good online maps that I use:

La Netro and Las Páginas Amarillas

When you are on the home page of either of these sites, select "callejero". For La Netro, it is the option on the right hand side and for Páginas Amarillas it is one of the tabs across the top of the page.

While the two places that you have chosen are extremely close. You could walk from one to the other depending on how you are dressed. If I recall correctly, Kapital is near Atocha train station, around the corner from MadridMan's favorite "El Brillante".

Have fun!

Oh, with regard to the person who asked about teens... I think many disco's, including Kapital, have two different sessions, an early evening session for teens and then a late night session for adults. I am not a disco person of late (I was when I was here studying years ago), but I do know that there is a large disco on Gran Vía/Princess near La Plaza de España. I have seen tremendous lines of teens in front of it waiting to enter on occasion. Unfortunately I don't know the name of it. Maybe someone else can help out here.

When I lived in madrid 1 1/2 years ago it cost 12 euro to get in. This price also includes a drink. But I am not sure what the price would be during the teen sesssions.

Unfortunately it's only in spanish, but a good source of practical info on places of all trends is the "night" page of "la guía del ocio".

For those you can read spanish it even has a search engine on bar and night clubs.
