Madrid: dining out? - 08/27/03 08:06 AM

Hi everyone!
Will be in Madrid the first 03 days in September and I'm curious about the dress code when going to dinner. Are jacket and ties required?
I don't plan on dining at the RITZ,just locally at "the cheap eats". I prefer slacks and dress shirt and I hope this will be okay. Please let me know,I don't want to be a stand-out in the crowd.
Thanks,

Slacks and a dress shirt (or polo )are fine (if you plan on going out after-no sneakers though) and you'll blend just fine! smile

Tie and jacket like you said- only if you were to go to a fancy place! (then they always have the beautiful 'loaner'jackets and ties- ewwww)

If, as you say, you're just doing "the cheap eats," you could even get by in shorts (weather permitting) or jeans. The only place I had trouble was one Irish restaurant where they seemed okay with my khaki shorts (which looked kind of ratty) but objected to my sneakers (which were new and spiffy looking).
