Barcelona's Espai Sucre

Barcelona's Espai Sucre - 05/16/02 01:50 PM

Made reservations at Espai Sucre , the all-dessert restaurant in Barcelona...yum!

the New York Times loved it -- anyone else been there?

It's supposed to be pretty shwanky...anyone know if there is a 'dress code', and if so, what constitutes a dress code in Barcelona? I despise ties, but should I have one handy?

chorizo refers, I think, to the NYTimes article which also suggests dining in the famed city. Mention of Espai Sucre below...:

Quote:
For a meal truly out of the ordinary, visit the pale, airy Espai Sucre, Princesa 53, (34) 93-268-1630, fax (34) 93-268-1523, for one savory dish and a tasting menu of either three or five desserts — and you'll still be able to rise from the table without too much trouble. The short menu of savory dishes includes octopus with beet and tomato sorbet, salad of squid and garbanzos or lentils with foie gras, but the real stars are the desserts. You might sample a soup of lichee, celery, apple and eucalyptus; a vanilla cream with coffee sorbet and caramelized banana; chocolate with spices; and raspberry cake with kefir and apricot sorbet. About $80 for two with wine. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 to 11:30 p.m.

Well, we're back...just a follow-up:

Espai Sucre was FAAAAABULOUS, but definitely splurge-y.

They have real food, but the primary emphasis is the 3 or 5-course menu of postres -- desserts! Mighty unique stuff, and all exquistely presented and of course de-lish!
Turns out they have a website, www.espaisucre.com , with a sample menu, wine list, and even some recipes (all in Spanish, of course).

Highly recommended for when you inevitably tire of salty ham on bread. <grin>

chorizo, thanks so much for the personal review! DARE you tell us how much you spent on the dinner for two? And how about the dress-code you questioned in your original posting? Were you required to wear a tie/coat? Was it smokey? Intimate? Dark? Candles on the tables? Cute coat-check girl? wink :p JUST CURIOUS!

But tell us! WHAT did you order?? What wine(s) did you choose?

Saludos, MadridMan

If anyone wants a fine meal in Barcelona, I would recommend "La Dida," which is on C/Roger de Flor between Provenza and Rosellón. The price is towards the upper end for Barcelona.
