Restaurant Near Atocha Station (Madrid) - 02/23/01 04:37 PM

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a nice restaurant near Atocha Station. My husband and I are traveling to Spain for our honeymoon and if anyone is aware of a particularly romantic place to dine, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Ritz Hotel is pretty near there... bet they have a nice dining room, and prices to go with it! Don't forget to cross the street from the atocha station and have some fried squid sandwhiches at the BAR BRILLANTE!!

The area around Madrid's Atocha train station isn't really known for having nice restaurants, but it has LOTS of normal/average restaurants.

But rgf's suggestion is a good one for a fine restaurant, something I think you're seeking. El Brillante gets my vote, however, for good bar food with no tables (standing at the bar only, unless you have a table on the terraza/sidewalk). There's also Planet Hollywood (blech!! )

You might also consider the VERY fine restaurant in The Palace Hotel which is very near Atocha AND The Ritz hotel. The Palace is absolutely beautiful! It's pricey, though. Have a great time and please return here to this/your thread to tell us where you went. Thanks!

There is a fabolous, romantic, inexpensive (but packed, you must book the day before), place near station Atocha that only natives know, that is, off the beaten path. If you are interested write to me so I ll give you all the information.

Andres,
I wrote you an email about a week ago asking about some info regarding the restaurant you mentioned, and I haven't received a reply. I wouldn't be so impatient except that I am leaving in a week. Could you please tell me about the restaurant on this thread?
Thanks,
Monica

Carolina I have been expecting your email but received none. I am having bad problems with my email lately, can you try it again?

Nevetheless here goes the information:

Restaurant: Champañeria Gala
Street: Moratin 22
Food: 20 different dishes out of rice.
Drink: Cava
Price: around 2.000pts
Telephone: 914292562
Reservation is neccesary especially at the weekends.
At lunch time they have two entry hours 1:45 and 3:45 you have to book for either of them, although I would go the day before and get more details(it is worth it).

Regards,
Andres Jarabo

Andres-
Thank you for your speedy reply! I'll have to try the restaurant. It sounds good! I'm sorry that your email is acting up. The email I sent to you didn't get returned to me, so I figured that you had received it.
Thanks again! Only 6 more days until I'm in Spain!!
