Spanish Theatrical experiences - 06/26/00 12:00 PM

One of my passions in Spanish literature has been for The Spanish Theatre. Now that I am planning to travel there, could anyone recommend any great theatrical experiences, either live or historical, for a traveling thespian.

In Madrid, check out this link
http://www.guiadelocio.com/madrid/teatro/buscateatro/index.jsp

I guess you will enjoy Teatro de La Comedia

( http://www.guiadelocio.com/madrid/teatro/buscateatro/resultado_teatro.jsp?idRecinto1 =3075 ). They only play clasic theatre (CalderŽon de la Barca, Lope de Vega, etc).

At summer, there are open air theatre at La Muralla Arabe (just beside the Almudena Cathedral).

There are also well known theatre festivals such as the one in Almagro (Ciudad Real).

Regards,

Antonio

PS: I have very few knowledge about theatre, so come on, post your suggestions here!!.

Hi Antonio and Bounder of Adventure,

I have a similar question. I'm traveling with a friend in August to Madrid, Sevilla, and Granada, and she wants to see a Spanish opera. How does a person find out about this or get tickets in advance?

Opera in Madrid takes place at the Teatro Real (Royal Theatre). They may have a website. If not, try "Guia del Ocio" or other similar sites las "lanetro.com"

Regards,

Antonio

August might not be a good month to see theater! I once went to Spain in August with the intention of writing a thesis paper about Spanish theater. The theaters were closed for a month of vacation.

Someone living in Spain could tell if this is still true.
