Haro - 09/30/04 04:19 PM

Have been wanting to go to La Rioja for some time to check out wineries. Will be up north in Feb and wanted to see if anyone has experiences traveling there, especially the city of Haro. Know its off the beatern travelbook path, but want to know if it merits a night or two for wine tasting and eating out. Any thought?

When i was studying in Bilbao, I took a little day trip to Haro. A really cute town!!! Saw a bullfight (my first AND last for the rest of my life), and checked out a wine place near by. If youv got the time, its a nice place to spend the day:-)

My cousin lived there. I was a couple of times when I was a boy.

A small town apart from the bigger capitals around, good/very good wine and vineyards and few more is what I can remember.

My mother's family town, great place for wine-tasters.
In fact, my gran-granfather was the owner of the finest bodegas around Haro.

Here is a link to their website. It's not the greatest but it has some info.

Thank you, baiscally will be in San Seb for 3 days and Bilbao for a night to visit w/ friends and eventually need to work my way south to Madrid at weeks end. Think it would be a nice place to visit for a night or 2 and sample some of Spain's finest vino.

As a town, I believe it does not deserve a second night.
