Is there a festival in Madrid on May 2? We're going to be in town on the 1st...should we anticipate any special festivities, crowds etc?

Hi Lealabecki-

I don't know about Madrid, but in Granada they celebrate "Dia de la Cruz", (Day of the Cross) which is an incredible thing if you can make it there. There are crosses built by different groups and set up all over town (even in front of McDonalds...) and at the Cathedral and many other spots (Campo del Principe is one) they have tents with food, drink and music set up and people dance Sevillanas all night long. Many people will even dress in the traditional outfits. It's quite impressive, like nothing I've seen before!

Have fun!

Hi lealabecki
There are usually festivities in the Malasaņa area on 2 May and especially on the Plaza del Dos de Mayo. I´m sure madrileņos on the board can give you more specific info.
Have a nice trip!
