Don't want to stay in Barcelona the entire time - suggestions?

I am going to Barcelona with a friend at the end of August - after checking out the fun there we want to see other things - what does everyone recomend? Ibiza? Majorca? I have been to Madrid before and *love* it but am not sure that I want to travel inland...thoughts? suggestions?

If you wnated a quick trip you can take the train up the Costa Brava and hang out in any of the little towns ..our favorite was Malgrat de Mar..There is a hotel there called the "Hotel Iris"..so nice and VERY cheap (almost hostal like price) with breakfast and dinner included and the staff is soo friendly..the towns are touristy but a lot if fun
