Madrid: beautiful walk on last night - 01/14/01 01:20 PM
Friday was my last night in Madrid. My room at the Palace overlooked the Neptuno. We walked out the hotel, across the Paseo del Prado, past the Academia de la Lengua, up to the Cason del Retiro (completely being redone: looked like a bomb hit it). We went to the Jeronimos church, where a wedding was about to start. The church was beautifully illuminated, and we watched the bride walk down the isle (as did some other tourists). Then we walked those lovely streets behind the Hotel Ritz, before heading up the calle del Prado to the Plaza de Santa Ana (always fun). We wound our way to the Plaza Mayor via small streets, then down the Arco de Cuchilleros. A beer at a local bar refreshed us before we toured cava baja/alta, then back to the Huerta area for delicious tapas at LACON. The full moon was shining, it finally stopped raining, and Madrid was glorious.
