MADRID Districts confusing - 11/29/04 08:30 PM

Will spend only one full day and one night in Madrid, passing thru to Andalusia region.
Flying into Barajas, plan to travel by train at ATOCHA, wish to over night somewhere near prado or monuments, between Barajas and Atocha but cant find a good map that shows both locations on one map, confusing..Any suggestions.
Prefer 3 star hotel, quiet location, but easy to access few sights on a cold February day and night. Also, which mode of transfer from Airport to ATocha will best suit me?

Strongly suggest that if you are not forced to drive in Madrid - DON'T!!!! Use cabs, feet or buses & metro for city transportation and cab or Aerocity to & from the airport.

A search through lodgings will give you a head start of hotels in Madrid

Tree steps:
1.- enter www.viamichelin.com
2. select ITINERARY: start: Barajas
destination:ATOCHA
3.- Feel free to zoom in the result map.

Search through the Madridman boards, there is loads of info.

Barajas is a way out of the city so this is the reason you were finding it difficult to place them togther on a map. Try the Prado and Atocha, follow link:

http://callejero.lanetro.com/apps/lanetro/mapas/mapas.asp?id_via=2224&pais_geoc=ESPA%D1A&nombredevia=Calle+del+Gobernador&numerovia=0&nombre_fichero=ta1esp-madrd-madrid&lite_provin cia_geoc=Madrid&lite_municipio_geoc=Madrid

Metro it from airport to Madrid, cheapest and possibly quickest way to go.

Can't help with hotels in centre, but promise you that anywhere in the Sol, Atocha, Prado etc etc areas is walkable to the sights.
