Madrid to Barcelona - 01/19/04 12:49 PM

We are planning to travel from Madrid to Barcelona in March. Does anyone know what is the most cheapest and econmoical way to get to Barcelona from Madrid? We were thinking by train, but I heard flying there would actually be cheaper. Is that true?

Travelgirl88, flying just MAY BE CHEAPER than train from one to the other but it all depends on specials, deals, what have you. The cheapEST way from one to the other is by bus (about 23 Euros each way) and takes about 7.5 hours. Train takes about 5.5 hours and costs about 59 Euros each way. There's a cheaper overnight train for about 34 Euros but it takes 9 hours. Beds are an extra cost.

Compare the three:

PLANE: http://www.Iberia.com
SPAIN TRAIN SITE @ http://www.renfe.es/ingles/
ALSA-ENATCAR Bus Company: http://www.alsa.es/

Travelgirl88, last weekend (16th,17th and 18th) Iberia had a special offer. Domestic flights for only 8€ one way!!. Unfortunately, that offer is over and now the cheapest price you can get is 29€ which is still a good value.

By the way, remember that those prices are without airport taxes.

Try to book in advance and compare prices at Iberia, Spanair and Air Europa.

I have a one way ticket from Madrid to Barcelona for 2 weeks from now. I paid US$39 tax included. The trick is to go to the Iberia website and use the Iberia in Spain function. They won't ship it to the US, but if you get an e-ticket it works fine!
