New subway line in Madrid (MetroSur) - 04/15/03 05:47 PM

Hi,

Last Friday April 11th the new subway line #12 was inaugurated in Madrid. It's a circular 40 km long line connecting the most important cities in the south of Madrid (Alcorcón, Fuenlabrada, Móstoles, Getafe, Leganés). This special line is called MetroSur (subway of the South) and has made Madrid's subway network one of the biggest in Europe.

Check out Metro de Madrid website for more information.

Regards,

Antonio

Antonio, thanks for the post. We have friends who live in Alcorcón. The last time we were there, we had to take the Cercanía. I am sure that the Metro makes things easier.

Unfortunately, you need a different ticket to travel around the MetroSur. That is, one for the main subway network and another one for the MetroSur circular line.

Antonio, but that's only if you don't buy the monthly bono (which I guess tourists or short term visitors wouldn't)

Go Madrid, besides the cercanias, there are also ample busses from madrid to alcorcon (so if you're going to be there past 11pm when the train stops, you'll have to opt for the bus anyway!)
The metro sur is just going to add on to the great transportation we have for alcorcon and those extra cities! smile Soooooo happy!
