Try farewatcher on Travelocity.com. Right now they have Minneapolis-Madrid on Continental for $380 through March, probably less from the coast. (Continental has the great in seat entertainment systems!)

Thanks for the updates! Now I just have to hope that seats are available. The life of a teacher stinks when attempting to travel around winter or spring vacations.

Stay inside & keep warm! Brrrrrrrrrrrr it's cold here in Connecticut

This past week I got airfare for $279 plus tax from KC. It was on NWA and I think that's pretty good.

I use all types of sources. For this summer I just booked round trip fare to Madrid for my daughter for $538 with taxes and everything. I bought hers through Travelocity because in the short time in took to call her to clear the dates, the price on the Delta site went up over $900. I was panicked when that happened. The price on Travelocity also jumped over $900 right after I bought her ticket!! It is a rat race.

My son and I are staying in Spain over a month so we did not qualify for that fare. After a great deal of searching, Exitotravel.com finally found us decent summer fair. Exito Travel often has the best rates for travel to Mexico, Central American, and South America.

There are other consolidators with good fares but it is continually changing.

Has anyone else used Exitotravel.com for reservations for travel? I've never heard of them before. I checked the website and got a quote for a flight, but I am unsure of doing online business with an unfamiliar company. There are some bogus internet scams going on out there.

I began using them in 2001. Several of the graduate students at Ohio State have also used them successfully. Once you find a fare, they send you a form which you must complete and then fax back to them. This place came highly recommended to me from a person who coordinates foreign studies for students in Mexico.

Was the fare you found good?

Because I had found a really cheap rate for my daughter on Delta and I wanted to be able to fly home with her on the return flight, I was not able to be as flexible as usual. Exito was able to save me over $400, based on the best fare I could find elsewhere for those specific flights!!

No matter who I book with, afer receiving confirmation, I always call the airline directly to verify that my reservation is correct and showing in the system.

Sel,
Thanks for the input. Here's what I got from Exito.

At this time, the best available fare for the itinerary you requested is $1047.87.
This fare would be with Delta Airlines, with one change of plane in Atlanta.

You might check out the rates from U.S. Airways and Air France. They both have flights from San Francisco to Madrid.

I believe it's very safe to by airline tickets on line. Just make sure you use a credit card that has guaranteed fraud protection and I agree, it's a good idea to call the airline and verify the flight was booked correctly after you make the purchase.

When I have helped foreign graduate students find good fares from Comumbus, I have usually been able to find fares considerably less than that. Are your dates flexible and do you care if you have several stops? Flexibility helps.

You might want to check Uniglobe Travel either by phone or internet. http://www.uniglobetravel.com/
They might have something less direct, perhaps through Amsterdam, for less money. Occasionally, they have deals that are a bit less direct, but for a big savings. You have to check everywhere. Sometimes the best deals are directly through the airlines and other times you must use a backdoor to get the best rates.
