Oporto->Madrid:Train or Plane?

I will be traveling to Oporto-Portugal in October and then on to Madrid. Can anybody advise which would be the best way to travel? Have even tought of renting a car. I will return to the US from Madrid. Time is tight. Thanks for the help. Mecky
