Madrid: Lodging near Atocha station - 02/08/08 09:45 PM

Looking for a reasonable room for one night for myself and 4yr old daughter. We'll be flying a red-eye from NY and will need to get caught up on sleep before heading to La Mancha by train.

Trying to avoid loud party-area hostels/hotels in the now popular Santa Ana area. Any recommendations for something clean, quiet and kid friendly, within easy walking distance to the train station?

The Hotel Mora is up the Paseo del Prado from Atocha...about a ten minute walk....maximum.

It is quiet...even though it is on a busy street, and reasonably priced.

It is not in a high entertainment area.

There are hotels that are closer, like right across the street...and some really nice ones up Atocha (the street) I think there is a new Tryp Hotel.

Hopefully MadridMan and or some of the madrileños will weigh in on this one.

But the Mora will be just fine if you do not find another that you like better.

Good luck!!

The big, fancy hotels around Atocha train station are not very "reasonably priced" for a one-night stay. There are three 4-star hotels around there with websites.

Istead, you might consider a hostel (i.e., "hostal" in Spanish - these are not youth hostels) for a less expensive place with a private room and bathroom. The two which have websites in that area are Hostal Barrera and Pension Mollo .

¡Suerte!
