Barcelona: pension or cheap place in Gothic quarter

Hi,

I am visiting Barcelona in March and would love to know about an inexpensive place to stay - less than forty dollars US in the Gothic Quarter. For three days or more. Has anyone stayed there and found a decent place near the action, bars, and dancing. I'm travelling alone so I'd like to meet people and be safe.
